Orkisima, the first well, then the school.
)
The starting point
Context & Problem
Orkisima is the home community of Lalahe and Lazaro. Lalahe's father lives here. Before 2019, the region had neither a school of its own nor reliable water.
The idea & the people
Orkisima was the school where Lalahe and Lazaro started in their own region. Trust was there from day one, the family lives on site, they know everyone.
The journey
First the well, then the school. In 2020 the first Makuyuni well stood, three years before the school hand-over. Water first, because everything else fails without it.
The result
403 children learn in Orkisima today. Seven classrooms, a teacher's house, a toilet block, an own tap at the school. The well supplies 3,200 people in the wider community.
Ausblick / Status
Handed over in 2022, a state primary school. The well keeps running, the school keeps growing, the community carries the daily life. Orkisima is operating in its own hands.

Today: School operates, well supplies 3,200 people.
Since 2022, Orkisima has been a state primary school. 403 children learn on site, seven to ten teachers work at the school. Salaries and maintenance are covered by the state, the community organizes daily life.
The well from 2020 continues to run. 3,200 people in Orkisima have clean drinking water according to WHO criteria. The school itself has its own water tap, water and education in the same place.
Well + school, in this order.
Orkisima was first a well, then a school. Here you see where the 187,990.78 € went, water, classrooms, teacher's house.
| Bauteil | Status | Kosten |
|---|---|---|
| School + teacher's house (7 classrooms) | Complete (2019–2022) | 119.629,35 € |

| Toilettenhaus | Complete | Anteilig oben |
| Total (Makuyuni share) | - | 187.990,78 € |
Costs rounded. The well and school were funded in parallel, the well came first because no education without water.
What's next for Orkisima.
Orkisima is in the hands of the government and the community. Our construction phase is complete, the state handles operations, the community handles daily life.
What we take away: well before school works. Where water is lacking, the foundation for everything else is missing. This principle shapes our sequence on every new construction site.
You can co-fund the next school.
Every euro flows directly into construction.
