Lolera, Book Fair 2026, the first step.

The initial situation
Context & Problem
Lolera is a Maasai community in northern Tanzania. 52 children of school age, no school on site. The nearest primary school is far away, many give up before they ever reach a classroom.
The idea & the people
The community wanted its own school. Lalahe and Lazaro brought the project to us. In 2025 Lolera became our sixth school, a starter block with Bücherbörse Köln e.V. as lead sponsor.
The journey
Bücherbörse Köln financed the complete Block A in 2026 with €76,000: two classrooms and a teacher's office. Bücherbörse Stuttgart e.V. is funding the well.
The result
Block A stands. 52 children can learn in pre-school and Class 1, one to two teachers work on site. What was still an empty field in mid-2025 is now a real school.
Ausblick / Status
Teacher's house, two toilet blocks and the well are under construction. Solar and furniture follow. Lolera is the school being built right now, your donation lands directly here.

Block A is standing: two classrooms and a teacher's office. Since 2025, 52 children have been learning here in preschool and grade 1, with one or two teachers on site.
Meanwhile, the crew on site is working on the teacher's house, two toilet houses and the well. The school is young and it's growing piece by piece.
Book Fair 2026, the first step.
A primary school doesn't start with just one classroom. Book Fair Cologne fully funded the basic setup for Lolera in 2026: Block A with two classrooms, the teacher's house, two toilet houses and furniture, totaling €76,000. Book Fair Stuttgart e.V. has come on board as the main sponsor for the well. Water tank and solar are the next open steps.

Lolera is remote, transport costs to the site are significantly higher than at our other schools.
What's next for Lolera.
Next, the teacher's house will be completed, so that teachers can live on site and don't have to commute every day. In parallel, two toilet houses and the well are underway, both of which are mandatory components for a state-recognized primary school.
Following that will be furniture and equipment, then solar. In the medium term: additional classrooms, so that the children who start in grade 1 can continue learning in Lolera up to grade 7.
