Server logs.
When you access this website, data is automatically stored in so-called server log files, which your browser transmits: browser type and version, operating system used, referrer URL, hostname of the accessing computer, time of access, IP address.
This data is technically necessary to correctly display the website and ensure stability and security (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. F GDPR, legitimate interest). They are not combined with other data sources and are deleted after a short period.
Cookies.
This website sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Neither for statistics nor for advertising, no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel or similar profile-building technology. That is why you will not see a cookie banner here.
Statistics.
To improve the website we use Umami, which works without cookies and does not build profiles about you. Since no cookies are set and no data is stored on your device, no consent is required for this.
We only record anonymous, aggregated information such as the pages viewed, approximate origin (country), device type and the referring page. Your IP address is processed only briefly and exclusively in anonymised (hashed) form and is not stored. Conclusions about individual persons are not possible.
The processing takes place at Umami Cloud on servers within the European Union. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a needs-based and secure design of our website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Google Ads.
We advertise with Google Ads through the Google Ad Grants programme, which provides free ads to non-profit organisations. To understand whether an ad actually achieves anything, we anonymously measure two things: how many people move on to a donation payment page after clicking an ad, and how many submit a membership application.
For this, a counting pixel from Google is embedded on this website. It is configured so that it stores nothing on your device: no cookies, no data in your browser's local storage. Technically this is called Google Consent Mode; all storage purposes are permanently set to "denied" on our site. That is why we do not ask for your permission with a banner. There is nothing to permit.
The following is transmitted to Google: your IP address, the identifier of the ad click (the click parameter in the address bar), the address of this website you visited, and the time. From this, Google can add up how many clicks led to a donation. No recognisable profile about you is created, and we do not learn who you are.
The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google also processes the data in the USA. The transfer is based on the EU standard contractual clauses and Google's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in using our donation advertising effectively and economically (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR). You can object to this processing at any time. A message to post@makuyuni.org is enough. More information from Google: policies.google.com/privacy
Membership application.
If you register as a member, we process the data specified in the application (name, email, possibly address, bank details, crew contribution) for the purpose of member management (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. B GDPR, contract fulfillment).
These data are stored for the duration of your membership. After termination, they are deleted, unless there are legal retention obligations (e.g., tax law). For inquiries, write to us at mitglieder@makuyuni.org.
Donations.
If you donate to us, data is generated with the payment service provider (bank, PayPal or, when paying by card or Apple Pay, Squarespace). We use this data solely for proper accounting and, if requested by you, for issuing a donation receipt.
Newsletter.
We send our newsletter via Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., 405 Howard Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, USA). If you sign up, we transfer your email address to Mailchimp and it is stored there until you unsubscribe.
The signup process is via double opt-in: after your registration, we send you a confirmation email, and the newsletter is only sent out when you click the confirmation link. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, the link is included in every email. When you unsubscribe, we delete your address from our Mailchimp list.
Mailchimp also processes data in the USA. The transmission is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and Mailchimp's participation in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. More in the Mailchimp privacy policy.

External content.
On our website, we link to external sites of our partners (Bücherbörse, J.Clay, Beyond Tellerrand, Fischers Fritze, among others). Upon clicking such links, the target site's privacy policy applies.
You can browse our shop directly on this website. The product data comes from Squarespace, and for payment you are forwarded to Squarespace. From that point on, their privacy policy applies.
We do not embed external content (videos, third-party fonts, maps, etc.) directly into our pages without explicitly stating it here.
Fonts.
We use the web fonts "Nunito Sans" and "DM Serif Display". They are hosted on our own server and loaded from there. When the page is accessed, no connection to Google is made and no IP address is transmitted to Google.
