The History

The Initial Situation
Idimayii is located in the Maasai village of Lomiyon. Before our time, there was hardly any possibility for schooling on site. Therefore, Lalahe started in 2009, together with the community, to create a place where children could be educated.
The Idea & the People
Makuyuni e.V. joined in 2018. We helped Lalahe and the Lomiyon community to continue building what they had already started, classrooms, furniture, and other equipment necessary for everyday school life.
The Path
We worked in Idimayii without a formal construction protocol. What we know: four classrooms were created, around 75 children learned there regularly. We did not build a well here.
The Result
The school was handed over to the Tanzanian government earlier than planned, with teacher salaries and operations running state-supported since then. Later, another non-profit organization took over further development. We are no longer operationally involved.
Status & Outlook
Idimayii stands. Idimayii learns. But no longer through us. Therefore, we do not know student numbers or structural expansions after our time. We document the school here because it is part of Makuyuni's history and because it shows that helping for self-help also means eventually not being part of a project anymore.

What we learned from Idimayii.
Idimayii is the point where we learned what bookkeeping in an association really means. Because, quite frankly: What we invested back then can no longer be neatly broken down into individual items.

What we take away: We document from the beginning, we clearly define responsibilities, and we keep the handover to the government or community in mind from the start.
